BJP leader daughter married to a dalit

Honor Killing: There is absolutely no honor in so-called honor killings

The issue of honor killing made the headlines again with the case of MLA daughter who married a guy of a different cast. Fearing honor killing, Sakshi Misra, who is the daughter of Rajesh Misra, the MLA from Bareilly district, U.P. uploaded a video on the social media on Wednesday and spoke about her wedding to Ajitesh Kumar. In another video, she has said there was a threat to her life from her father, brother and an associate, and urged the Bareilly senior superintendent of police to extend security to them. This young couple, who deserved protection and help, have ended up in a tragic situation. This is not the time to fuel and agitate the upper class-Dalit conflict or differences. It is time for quiet contemplation and a serious thought of how to protect our young men and women in India, who want another India than the one their parents want.

The basic reason behind honor killings is the idea that a family’s honor is tied to a woman’s chastity.

From taking birth as a girl to a grown woman, females in our country have to face so many challenges. The responsibility of upholding a family’s morality mostly falls on women, who are also the most common victims of honor killings. By marrying a man without her parents’ consent “she is seen as polluting not just herself but also her domestic group. Why this dilemma exists in our society for so many years.
Why don't they have the freedom to choose what is wrong and what is right for them...what's wrong with that idea.??
There are people who always cry over many situations saying our country is lacking in every aspect from other countries...if you as an individual have such kind of mentality that you can't let your family's women decide their future then what will be the future of our country...what kind of development you are asking for...developing as an individual makes your country develop.

Society needs to change their thinking..and stop taunting the family of the victim
Illiteracy, to an extent, is a major factor for such crimes, but a more deep-rooted cause is the mentality of the society. As long as the Gotra system and the caste system are in place, there will be division in the society. In many cases, it has seen that if parents allow their daughter to marry someone she likes, society doesn't let them live peacefully. People in society taunt the family of the victim and make the situation worse.

Therefore the change has to come from within us, as a society. Education will be a huge contributing factor to this. We need to understand the ancestry and caste of a person ultimately does not matter and what matters is a person’s free will. Most of all, the families need to respect their women and trust them to make the right choices and forge the correct path for themselves.
